Lagos state House of Assembly

The Lagos State House of Assembly serves as the legislative arm of the Lagos State Government, responsible for enacting laws that govern the state, providing oversight for the executive branch, and representing the interests of the people of Lagos. Established alongside the creation of Lagos State in 1967, the House of Assembly formally commenced legislative operations with the return to civilian rule in 1979. Comprising elected representatives from the various constituencies across the state, the Assembly plays a critical role in shaping the legal and policy framework that supports the state’s development, governance, and public administration. The Assembly deliberates on state matters ranging from economic policies, budget appropriations, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and cultural preservation. The legislative process of the Lagos State House of Assembly generates a significant body of public records, including bills, motions, resolutions, and committee reports. These documents contribute directly to the archival collections managed by the Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB), ensuring that the legislative history of Lagos is preserved, accessible, and available for research, legal reference, and public accountability. Through its law-making, oversight, and representative functions, the Lagos State House of Assembly continues to serve as a cornerstone of democratic governance and institutional transparency in Lagos State.
